Maashooqana/ Mashooqana Meaning

These days, Bollywood is desperately looking for new words. Some of them completely meaningless, and some where you can find some meaning. End of the day, everyone wants to be unique. One such attempt comes from Shekhar Suman's new film, Heartless.

Maashooqa (or Mashooqa) is an old Urdu word, a little less used these days, for a beloved. Aashiq is a lover, and the love-object is Mashooqa. But now comes Mashooqana, which is relatively unheard. The word would literally mean 'charming' or you could also say 'like a beloved', or 'in the style, way of a beloved'.
